Leon Ford, age 24, sued the City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Police Officers David Derbish and Andrew Miller on civil rights violation theories under 42 U.S.C. 1983 claiming that Derbish used excessive force and that Miller assaulted and battered him during an encounter in November 2012 during which Ford was shot and paralyzed. He claimed that he was the victim of three "rogue cops", Derbish, Miller and Michael Kosko, who initiated the traffic stop during which he was shot.
Outcome: Defendant's verdict on Plaintiff's claim against Miller and deadlocks as to Derbish.
