Description: Bangor, ME - Bangor Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Possessing Child Pornography

David Jack, 44, of Bangor, was sentenced on June 11, 2018 in U.S. District Court by Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. to 10 years in prison and 15 years of supervised release for possessing child pornography. Jack pleaded guilty on January 26, 2018.

According to court records, in the summer of 2016, the defendant, while living in Bangor, used his cellular telephone to show images of children engaged in sexual activity to a 9-year-old girl. Shortly thereafter, detectives with the Bangor Police Department obtained a search warrant for the defendant’s home and seized two laptop computers and a cellular telephone. A forensic examination of those devices revealed over two thousand images of children, many of them prepubescent, engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The case was investigated by the Bangor Police Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
