Description: Columbia, South Carolina ----- United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated that Jordan Hughey was sentenced in federal court in Columbia, South Carolina, by United States District Judge Joseph F. Anderson of Columbia to be imprisoned for 18 months followed by 5 years supervised release for failure to register as a sex offender.

Evidence presented at the guilty plea hearing established that Hughey served a prison sentence in California after being convicted of rape involving a victim incapable of consent due to mental disability. As the result of this conviction, Hughey was required to register as a sex offender wherever he lived when he was released from prison in June 2012. Instead of registering in California, Hughey moved to South Carolina where he also failed to register. Hughey was arrested in South Carolina ten months later and taken back to California for violating his parole. After serving a short sentence, Hughey was released and moved to Hickory Grove, South Carolina, without registering as a sex offender and was arrested on September 13, 2013.

The case was investigated by agents of the United States Marshal Service. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II of the Columbia office prosecuted the case.
