Description: Covidiens, PLC's VNUS Medical Technologies, Inc. sued Total Vein Solutions, LLC and Biolitec, AG on a patent infringement theory claiming that it infringed Plaintiff's patents for eliminating varicose veins with lasers. The dispute arose over endovenous laser ablation, a nonsurgical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins.

Total Vein Systems markets a complete line of Venous Surgery Procedure Packs , Laser Fibers , Access Devices , Surgical Supplies and Compression Hosiery.

Biolitec sells surgical and cosmetic lasers and disposable medical supplied for urology and skin care.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict against Total Vien for $36.5 million and Biolitec for $9.34 million.
