Description: Dallas, TX - EPA Settles With Whole Foods On Improper Identification and Handling of Hazardous Waste

The Environment Protection Agency sued Whole Foods claiming that the grocery store chain was improperly identifying and handling hazardous waste at its stores. The conflict arose over nail polish remover, vitamins, liquor and cleaning items that were purchased, opened, returned and then could no longer be sold.

Whole Foods denied that it had improperly disposed of hazardous wastes and that it was changing the way that it keeps records relating to such waste.

Outcome: Settled for $3.5 million.
