Description: Bryan Gray was killed when the Chevrolet Beretta that he was driving was hit by a Prince George's County patrol car being driven at twice the posted speed limit on a residential street by Cpl. Mario Chavez in December 2007. Gray was on his way to the University of Maryland to take an examination and was being followed by his mother. He was attempting to execute a left turn his his car was hit by the patrol car being driven by Chavez, who was off duty.

Defendants claimed that Gray also failed to exercise due care in make the left turn.

Chavez had consumed alcohol in the 12 hours before the accident but was not tested for blood alcohol levels by investigating officers. He was allegedly traveling at twice the 25 mph post speed limit at the time of the accident.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $4 million with a finding that Gray was not at fault.
