Description: Newport, KY - The State of Kentucky charged Shayna Hubers, age 21, with the first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter and reckless homicide of Ryan Poston, age 29, who she shot to death on October 12, 2012.

The State alleged that Hubers and Poston had an off and relationship for some time before his death but that he wanted to end the relationship.

Defendant claimed self defense.

She said that she shot him a second time to stop his body from twitching.

The trial lasted 9 days.

Outcome: Guilty in five hours. The jury recommended that she be sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Reversed when it was learned that one of the jurors was a convicted felon.
