Description: Independence, KS - Alejandro Arturo Garcia-Garcia, a.k.a. Alex Garcia, a.k.a. Alejandro Garcia, 23, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for more than 31 years for attempted capital murder and related crimes, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.
Garcia-Garcia was found guilty of one count of attempted capital murder, one count of kidnapping, one count of burglary and one count of interference with law enforcement by a Montgomery County jury in April. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for 25 years for the attempted capital murder charge and an additional 77 months for the related charges to be served consecutively in the Kansas Department of Corrections. The attempted capital murder charge is in connection with a shooting at a Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy. The crimes occurred in Montgomery County in May 2015. Garcia-Garcia faces additional charges in Oklahoma in connection with a shooting of a law enforcement officer there.
The case was investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Bureau of investigation. Assistant Attorney General Steven Karrer of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.
Outcome: Defendant was found guilty and was sentenced to life without parole.
