Description: Starrh and Starrh Cotton Growers sued Aera Energy LLC on a negligence theory claiming that Defendants failed to exercise due care in the disposal of salt water from oil production and polluted the groundwater under Plaintiff's land. Plaintiff claimed that Aera knowingly allowed some 600 million barrels of oil wastewater to seep into subsurface geologic structures under their farm damaging water that could have been sued by it for agricultural production.

Aera claimed that the water that Plaintiff claimed was damaged was too salty for irrigation in any event.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $8.5 million.
