Description: Jerry "Jay" Harbison sued AmerenUE on a negligence theoy for the wrongful death of his son Nic Harbison who was electrocuted on March 18, 2006 when he jumped into Spring Lake just south of DeSoto, Illniois. Morgan Milfeld and Tim Fitzpatrick also jumped into the law with Harbison and were injured that the electrified water. Plaintiffs claimed that a power line owned by AmerenUE was negligently installed and, as a direct result, electrified the lake's water.

AmerenUE denied wrongdoing and asserted that it has no intent to make any changes to the underground cable at the lake in light of the litigation.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $2.3 million including $1.25 million to the Harbisons; $725,000 to Fitzpatrick and $350,000 to Milfeld.
