Ted co-founded Sampsell-Jones Law Office, LLC in 2009. Ted's practice is focused primarily on appellate criminal defense. He also works as a litigation consultant for criminal and civil trials. Ted works as a regular consultant for the San Francisco law firm of Riordan & Horgan, one of the nation's leading criminal appellate firms. With Riordan & Horgan, he has worked on a wide variety of criminal appeals, with a focus on white collar crime including tax fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, and criminal antitrust. He has worked for defendants including Phil Spector, Barry Bonds, and Pavel Lazarenko, the former prime minister of Ukraine.

In Minnesota, Ted volunteers as a Special Assistant Public Defender for the state Appellate Defender's Office. As an appointed defender, Ted has represented indigent defendants appealing convictions for crimes ranging from simple assaults and drug dealing to sexual assault and murder. Ted is also a member of the Minnesota Federal Defender's CJA Panel. In addition to his practice, Ted is a full-time member of the faculty at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN, where teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Sentencing, and Civil Procedure. He was voted Teacher of the Year by students for the 2009-2010 academic year. Ted is also a regular CLE lecturer, and he has published many law review articles with a general focus on the operation of the rules of evidence in criminal trials.
