Additional Information: Nancy Jo Garrett joined Moffatt Thomas as a partner in 2008. Ms. Garrett is a native of Idaho. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1974 followed in 1982 by a Masters of Science in Nursing Education from Idaho State University. She has subspecialties in emergency care, trauma, nursing education, and long term community health. While working in the area of emergency nursing, she also held a tenure tract faculty position in the College of Health Related Sciences at Idaho State University. She was on faculty at I.S.U. until the time she entered the University of Idaho to obtain a law degree. While at law school she tutored IL students and assisted four professors in research. She obtained a Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho in 1989, and was admitted to the Idaho State Bar that same year.
Ms. Garrett began her law career with the firm of Quane, Smith, Howard & Hull where she practiced in the area of medical malpractice defense. In 1993, she joined the law firm of Cosho, Humphrey, Greener and Welsh, becoming the first female partner of that firm. In 2000 she co-formed the firm of Gjording & Garrett, with her practice continuing to center on medical malpractice defense. Before joining Moffatt Thomas, Ms. Garrett was a partner with Brassey, Wetherell, Crawford & Garrett. Her practice continues in civil litigation with an emphasis in medical malpractice matters and ADR. She also has experience and expertise in representing clients in health care governmental billing requirements and guidelines for Medicare, Medicaid matters, to include matters dealing with allegations of fraudulent practices or practices outside the controlling guidelines. She has additional experience and expertise in professional licensure issues, health care privileges, and complaints before the specific governmental boards for professional health care practitioners.
Ms. Garrett has extensive trial experience in multi-party matters in the courts of the State of Idaho, Washington and Montana. She is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Idaho, and the courts of the State of Washington.
Ms. Garrett is a member of the Idaho State Bar, Washington State Bar, Idaho Defense Attorneys, Defense Research Institute, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. She has been a member of the Inns of Court for the Fourth Judicial District. Ms. Garrett carries a current license with the Idaho State Board of Nursing, the Idaho and Washington State Bar. She holds an Advanced Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Northwestern Institute for Dispute Resolution.
